چکیده

Some natural problems seem not to be complete for any of the complexity classes we have seen so far. For example, consider the problem of taking as input a graph G and a number k, and deciding whether k is exactly the length of the shortest traveling salesperson’s tour. This is clearly related to the problem discussed in Chapter 28, Section 3, but in contrast to , it seems not to belong to NP, and also seems not to belong to co-NP. To classify and understand this and other problems, we will introduce a few more complexity classes. We cannot discuss all of the classes that have been studied—there are further pointers to the literature at the end of this chapter. Our goal is to describe some of the most important classes, such as those defined by probabilistic and interactive computation. A common theme is that the new classes arise from the interaction of complexity theory with other fields, such as randomized algorithms, formal logic, combinatorial optimization, and matrix algebra. Complexity theory provides a common formal language for analyzing computational performance in these areas. Other examples can be found in other chapters of this Handbook. 1Supported by the National Science Foundation under Grant CCR-9509603. A New Approach to Detect Congestive Heart Failure Using Symbolic Dynamics Analysis of Electrocardiogram Signal

The aim of this study is to show that the measures derived from Electrocardiogram (ECG) signals many a time perform better than the same measures obtained from heart rate (HR) signals. A comparison was made to investigate how far the nonlinear symbolic dynamics approach helps to characterize the nonlinear properties of ECG signals and HR signals, and thereby discriminate between normal and cong...

The Relationship between Syntactic and Lexical Complexity in Speech Monologues of EFL Learners

: This study aims to explore the relationship between syntactic and lexical complexity and also the relationship between different aspects of lexical complexity. To this end, speech monologs of 35 Iranian high-intermediate learners of English on three different tasks (i.e. argumentation, description, and narration) were analyzed for correlations between one measure of sy...

Measurement of Complexity and Comprehension of a Program Through a Cognitive Approach

The inherent complexity of the software systems creates problems in the software engineering industry. Numerous techniques have been designed to comprehend the fundamental characteristics of software systems. To understand the software, it is necessary to know about the complexity level of the source code. Cognitive informatics perform an important role for better understanding the complexity o...

Learning classes of approximations to non-recursive function

Blum and Blum (1975) showed that a class B of suitable recursive approximations to the halting problem K is reliably EX-learnable but left it open whether or not B is in NUM. By showing B to be not in NUM we resolve this old problem. Moreover, variants of this problem obtained by approximating any given recur-sively enumerable set A instead of the halting problem K are studied. All correspondin...

MMDT: Multi-Objective Memetic Rule Learning from Decision Tree

In this article, a Multi-Objective Memetic Algorithm (MA) for rule learning is proposed. Prediction accuracy and interpretation are two measures that conflict with each other. In this approach, we consider accuracy and interpretation of rules sets. Additionally, individual classifiers face other problems such as huge sizes, high dimensionality and imbalance classes’ distribution data sets. This...
